Born in a small village near Karnal, Haryana, Sumit Narwal grew up watching his father play local cricket tournaments. Inspired by him, Sumit began playing village matches at an early age and quickly gained local recognition.

His big break came with selection to the Haryana Ranji Trophy team, making him the first cricketer from Karnal and nearby districts like Ambala, Kurukshetra, Panipat, and Yamunanagar to achieve this feat.

Over the years, Sumit represented both Haryana and Delhi in Ranji Trophy, captained Delhi, and played in tournaments like the Duleep Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, and Challenger Trophy. He was also selected for India against West Indies and played in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders.

With a desire to give back, he founded the Sumit Narwal Welfare Foundation, focusing on community upliftment through sports, education, and health.

The Foundation’s early-stage support and professional coaching have been instrumental in shaping these athletes’ careers.

Through continuous coaching and high-performance training at the grassroots level, the Foundation helped four players from Karnal secure a place in the Haryana Under-16 State Team in 2022. Today, the Foundation continues to train Under-16, Under-19, Under-25, and senior-level teams—building a strong future for sports in the region.

On Monday, April 25, 2022, Sumit Narwal was appointed as Treasurer of the Haryana Wrestling Federation. He visited Karnal’s Panchayat Bhawan, where he was welcomed amidst a formal ceremony involving local wrestlers and officials.

During his speech, Sumit stressed the importance of ensuring no athlete faces facility shortages and pledged to work diligently to enhance training environments and infrastructure

Through the Sumit Narwal Welfare Foundation, continuous efforts have been made to provide accessible healthcare services in Karnal and surrounding villages. During the COVID-19 crisis, the Foundation was among the first to step forward in support of the district administration—supplying essential medical equipment such as oxygen concentrators, pulse oximeters, face masks, hand sanitizers, and critical medicines.

Additionally, the Foundation contributed to the installation of an oxygen plant worth ₹70 lakhs at Arpana Hospital in Karnal to address the oxygen shortage during the pandemic.

On World Health Day, the Foundation organized a free blood testing camp at Sector-16 Polyclinic, offering comprehensive blood tests to the general public. In partnership with SRL Hospital, a high-quality ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) screening camp was conducted in nearby villages, which also included free distribution of hearing aids and prescribed medicines.

The initiative further extended to women's health, where checkups for various gynecological and abdominal/liver-related illnesses were provided, along with free medication for all attendees.

In village Gundla, the Foundation also organized a large-scale medical camp in collaboration with Narayana Hospital, Delhi. The camp offered free diagnosis and medicine distribution for conditions such as cancer, bone diseases, heart disorders, diabetes, and more—benefiting hundreds of underserved individuals.

The Sumit Narwal Welfare Foundation is committed to empowering rural youth through education and digital access. In an effort to promote digital literacy and bridge the technology gap, the Foundation installed free public Wi-Fi hotspots across Chidraw village, enabling every resident to access the internet at no cost. This initiative has been especially impactful for young girls who, due to various constraints, were unable to travel outside the village for education. Now, they are able to study from home using digital resources.

Recognizing the value of quality education, the Foundation, in collaboration with CSRL (Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership), organized a scholarship entrance exam for IIT preparation. Students who qualify in this examination receive full support for their coaching, accommodation, meals, and academic needs — funded entirely by the partnering institutions.

The Sumit Narwal Welfare Foundation actively promotes social harmony and community bonding through inclusive events and welfare initiatives. A vibrant example of this was a community Holi celebration organized by the Foundation, where thousands of residents from neighboring villages came together. Village heads, district council members, and block committee representatives from across Karnal participated, sharing meals and celebrating in unity.

To enhance safety and community monitoring, the Foundation has installed CCTV surveillance systems across key areas in the village, ensuring greater security for residents.

In addition to social programs, the Foundation also supports local employment generation by connecting rural youth to job opportunities, helping them become self-reliant.

With a strong focus on social upliftment, the Foundation continues to work for the betterment of the region—striving to fulfill the dreams of those who face barriers due to financial hardship or lack of proper guidance.

Free Waste Collection Vehicles Distribution

In support of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission, the Sumit Narwal Welfare Foundation has taken proactive steps to promote cleanliness across rural areas in the Karnal region.

The Foundation distributed free garbage collection vehicles to ensure daily waste pickup from every household in various villages. This initiative plays a significant role in improving sanitation, enhancing public health, and encouraging responsible waste management in the community.
